I am a single mom of 3 with a total household income of $26,000 a year. Yet I am also an educated professional (2 degrees) working in white-collar positions and not (I hope) obviously poverty-stricken. It's just that my child care duties interfere with my money-making ability in a constant tradeoff of my family's welfare. My kids are all TAG students and enrolled in honors courses. Yet we are often unable to buy milk the last week of the month because our food stamps have run out. I find there are so many stereotypes about what the "hungry" look like, yet I know many other women in my position. We aren't obvious, but we are out here.
