OSU alum Jim Smith at McKenzie Books
We at Powered by Orange just heard from Jim Smith, president and owner of McKenzie Books, Inc, which has netted nearly $10 million in revenue this year after only 8 years of being in business. This in part is due to Smith’s flagship Web site, cash4books.net, which gives users an easy way to sell books online and recieve quick cash back. Smith uses the inventory from cash4books to sell at McKenzie. McKenzie employs 43 people, and has grown so much that it’s added 14 jobs in the past year. Smith graduated from OSU in 2003, and says that he came away with skills he could use as soon as he graduated. “The Java skills and background I obtained at OSU helped me to get a job using some cutting-edge technology, right out of college. This, in turn, helped me with ideas in forming my own business model,” he says.
